Summit of Conscience

Paris, July 21,2015

President Hollande of France appointed a special envoy to organize the Summit of Conscience on July 21st in Paris at which time the “Why do I care” campaign was launched. Prominent individuals from many of the world’s religions and wisdom traditions gathered to answer the question, “Why do I care” about the planet.

Mr. Saionji spoke during the fourth plenary session of the Summit titled, “Inspiring the world to care – igniting the will to act for the climate.”

The Summit of Conscience was organized in preparation of the 21st Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) to bring awareness to the critical climate change issue. COP21 will be held at the end of the year in Paris at which time 195 States must reach a universal, legally binding agreement to limit the global warming to 2 degrees Celsius by 2100.
